Director of Outreach and Prevention

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Outreach is responsible for overseeing all outreach and prevention activities and staff at Step-Up. This position manages and directs the activities of all outreach and prevention staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Other duties may be assigned.

1. Establish new relationships/partnerships with community partners and maintain existing relationships/partnerships.

2. Provide online and in-person outreach protocol based on best practices.

3. Remain current on national outreach guidelines and recommendations and share those with the outreach team.

4. Research, develop, and implement innovative approaches to outreach/prevention.

5. Take advantage of continuing education opportunities and promote those opportunities to staff when applicable.

6. Manage and direct the activities of all outreach and prevention staff, providing coaching, counseling, and discipline as needed.

7. Approve time off requests and timecards for all outreach and testing staff.

8. Enforce organization policies and ensure that team dynamic aligns well with organization culture, vision, and mission.

9. Facilitate and lead communication with all outreach staff.

10. Prepare annual refunding grant proposals. Manage grant workplans and budgets. Track outcomes.

11. Research and propose additional funding opportunities and work with other team members to enhance or expand program funding.

12. Coordinate the onboarding and training process for new staff members.

13. Coordinate the outreach team calendar, ensuring that all community events, and regular outreach sessions are staffed.

14. Attend outreach sessions regularly to evaluate staff, provide feedback, and maintain rapport with community partners.

15. Plan and facilitate outreach team meetings. Actively participate in agency staff and management meetings.

16. Work with Quality Manager and Finance Director, on monthly reports to funders and to the Executive Director/Board of Directors.

17. Plan, coordinate, execute, and evaluate community engagement events.

18. Engage community volunteers for agency activities and events.

19. Manage, update, and oversee website and social media sites, including apps used for outreach activities.

20. Create and deliver presentations internally and externally about HIV/STD/HEP C outreach and prevention activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in public health, communications, social work, or other relevant field required.

Experience working in the nonprofit sector, specifically in an HIV and AIDS service organization, is strongly preferred.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and speak English required. Spanish-speaking a plus.

Other Skills:

Proficiency with Word, Excel, and Outlook, ability to learn additional programs as required.

Dependable transportation required; position may entail travel throughout Central Indiana.

Ability and willingness to be trained to perform all HIV/STD/HEP C screenings according to established protocols.

Must be age 21 or older.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position supervises all outreach and prevention staff.

The work environment for Director of Outreach is divided between the community and Step-Up office. Duties may be performed in the office or at bars, saunas/bathhouses, community events (indoor and outdoor), convention spaces and other venues. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely required use standard office equipment such as computers, phone, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, and is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

The employee must regularly work 37 ½ hours per week, additional hours may be required. Job requires frequent evening and weekend hours. The employee must regularly lift, organize, and deliver boxes of outreach supplies and educational materials up to 25 pounds with or without assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus; While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, twist, squat, reach with hands and arms, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk or hear.
